Municipal Court
Functions
The Municipal Court of Marysville handles alleged violations of city ordinances and alleged traffic and misdemeanor violations.
The court handles records management of all court cases, collections of fines and forfeitures.

Hearings are on the FIRST and THIRD Wednesday of every month, at 6:00 PM, Subject to holidays and schedule conflicts.

***All notices to appear will be either mailed to the last known address or it will be given to you at the time of the incident. If you have an open case, keeping your address current with the court is critical.
If a notice to appear cannot be delivered by the Post Office because you have not kept your address current, a warrant may be issued.

Paying a Ticket or Fine
There are several options for paying a ticket or fine. Those that do not require a court appearance can be paid in person at the Municipal Court Clerk’s office, by phone or by mail.

Municipal Court Process
Under Kansas law, a person can be brought to trial after a complaint or traffic citation has been filed. The complaint or citation is a document that outlines what the person is charged with and states that the actions are unlawful. As a defendant, you have a right to inspect the complaint or citation before trial and have it read to you.
The process you must go through as a defendant or person charged with a violation could involve the following:
The right to an attorney
In Municipal Court, you may represent yourself or you may be represented by an attorney. If you are charged with an offense that may result in jail time, you have the right to be represented by an attorney. For this type of offense, you are able to fill out a Financial Affidavit. The court will appoint an attorney to you if you meet the financial guidelines.
Waiver of Right to Counsel
In certain cases, the court will not allow you to enter a plea without you having an attorney or you sign a formal waiver, giving up your right to have legal counsel. You will be advised by the Judge if you are charged with one or more of these types of offenses. By signing the formal waiver, you will be stating to the court you are freely choosing to represent yourself and you will be acting as your own attorney, you know what you are charged with, you know the possible sentence and any defenses to the charge(s) that are not raised will be lost. You will be held to the same standards as an attorney, the judge may not assist you in your defense.
